Frequently asked questions ~
Q) Is Reflexology safe?
A) Generally, reflexology is very safe, even for people living with serious health conditions. It is a non-invasive treatment and very comfortable to receive.
However, you should talk to your doctor first if you have any of the following health issues:
If you have any of the above issues, you may still be able to try reflexology but you may need to take a few extra precautions to avoid any adverse effects.
Always talk to you doctor if you have any serious conditions before seeking treatment.
Q) How many treatments are needed to improve my wellbeing?
A) In order to fully benefit from this treatment, it is advised that a client takes a weekly treatment of up to 4-6 weeks followed by a fortnightly or a monthly session depending on your personal preference.
Reflexology may not be a scientifically proven medical treatment for disease but studies suggest it's a helpful complementary treatment, especially for stress and anxiety.
Q) What clothing should I wear to my appointment?
A) Loose, casual and comfortable clothing is recommended, as i will need to massage your feet and around the lower leg area. You will be reclined in my reflexology chair or couch bed and want to be able to relax without tight clothing or belts digging in. You will remain fully clothed at all times.
Q) What will provided during my treatment?
A) A comfortable treatment room, ambient lighting, choice of pillows, cosy soft warm blankets, support, soothing music, an eye pillow, a variety of balms and water/herbal tea will be offered prior to the treatment.
Q) Will I feel any pain during the treatment?
A) There is generally no pain, however, if there are any imbalances or blockages in your body, you may experience small twinges or minor discomfort while these imbalances are being cleared. Typically a treatment will feel extremely relaxing and enjoyable. You might even fall asleep (very many do!)
Q) Will you need any of my medical history before treatment?
A) Yes. You will be required to complete a medical history form, which asks questions about your current health and wellbeing, as well as some more general information about yourself in order to adapt the treatment to best meet your needs. Any information given will be kept strictly confidential. In some circumstances you may be asked to sign an informed consent form.
Q) How will I feel after the treatment?
A) Reflexology has a different affect on each individual, depending on their own circumstances. Most people tend to feel calm, relaxed or even sleepy, while others feel energetic and full of life.
Some people can experience the feeling of lightheadedness, tender feet, emotional sensitivity or extreme tiredness, but these are indications that the treatment is having a positive effect and these will only be short-term side effects and go away shortly after treatment.
Its important that whatever feelings you do experience, you discuss them before leaving the treatment room.
You will be provided with some aftercare information following the treatment, along with some tips/advice to continue receiving the best result from your reflexology treatment. A complimentary aftercare gift bag will also be provided to you at the end of your session as a small thank you gesture and to also help you continue with your well being beyond after leaving my treatment room :-))
